Early Decision
Geneseo participates in a first choice Early Decision
Admission program.
The program's aim is to reserve positions in the freshman
class for superior candidates who have decided upon
Geneseo as their first choice college and have academic credentials which would place them in the most preferred category.
In return, students applying under the early decision
program commit to enroll at Geneseo if admitted.
Transfer, EOP and special talent students are not eligible
for this program; application deadlines for early decision admission prevent these candidates from participating.
Early Decision candidates must complete their
applications by November 15.
Applicants will be notified of an admission decision
by mid-December.
If you are interested in applying through the
Early Decision program, please contact the Office of Admissions immediately so that we may send you all
necessary materials. You may either call the Admissions
Office directly at 866-245-5211 or email Kristine Shay,
the Director of Admissions, at shay@geneseo.edu.
If you would like to begin the process now, you may
download and print the following forms:
Supplemental Forms
EVFAFSA
Statement of Commitment
Financial Aid
If financial aid is a consideration in your choice of college
and you choose to apply through the Early Decision
program, you should file Geneseo's Early Version Free Application for Federal Student Aid (EVFAFSA) financial
aid form. EVFAFSA forms will be mailed from the
Admissions Office to all ED applicants. This form must
also be received by November 15. If admitted, you will
receive a tentative award notice with your letter of admission. In addition, you must file the regular FAFSA when it
becomes available in early January. If you choose not to
submit an early financial aid form you are agreeing, if
admitted through the Early Decision Program, to attend Geneseo regardless of the eventual financial aid award. |

If you apply to Geneseo through the Early Decision program, you must submit a statement of obligation in which you commit to accepting the offer of admission if it is extended. The first choice early decision plan allows you to initiate other applications; however, upon notification of admission to Geneseo, you must agree to withdraw all other applications. The Statement of Commitment is as follows:
Statement of Commitment
Geneseo is my first choice college and I wish to have my
application considered under the first choice Early Decision plan. I understand that I am committed to accepting an offer of admission if it is extended. I also agree to withdraw all previously filed college applications upon notification of an admission offer from Geneseo, and I will not
initiate any new ones.
Your early decision application will not be complete without a handwritten copy of this statement; a form to write out the statement will be provided for you. Your signature is required on this Statement of Commitment, as well as your parent's or guardian's signature.
Due to the serious nature of this commitment, it is very important that you:
-Visit Geneseo, as well as your other college choices prior to selecting this option.
-Discuss this commitment with your school counselor and with your parents or guardian.
-Determine that Geneseo meets your academic, extracurricular, social and financial needs.
-Determine unconditionally that Geneseo is your first choice college and understand the commitment to enroll at Geneseo if admitted.
Deadlines and Notification Dates
Early Decision candidates must complete their applications by
November 15. For details, please review the Early Decision Application Checklist. Applicants will be notified of an admission decision by mid-December. Those admitted must withdraw applications to other colleges and submit a non-refundable tuition and housing deposit of $300 by January 15. Applications of those not admitted as part of the early decision program will be deferred and reviewed again under the regular admission program; candidates will be notified of a final admission decision by March 1.
