Distinctive Niche
Geneseo has carved a distinctive niche in the higher education marketplace as the public counterpart to the most selective private liberal arts colleges in the nation.
Top competitors include Colgate, Hamilton, Rochester, Cornell and Boston College.
Selectivity
With nearly 10 applicants for every position in the freshman class, Geneseo ranks among the two or
three most selective public undergraduate colleges
in the nation, and among the top 10% of all
colleges and universities.
We invite you to review our most recent freshman
profile and learn more about our selection standards.
Undergraduate Emphasis
Undergraduates are front and center at Geneseo
and teaching comes first. With a 265 member
faculty we are able to ensure a student-faculty ratio
of 19:1 and provide close, personal relationships.
No classes are taught by Graduate Teaching
Assistants- all faculty teach undergraduates. Undergraduates serve as research assistants and
receive grants for their own research activites and all faculty provide academic and career/graduate school advising.
Small Town Appeal
Geneseo has all the hallmarks of a traditional New England college town-- collegiate atmosphere, tree-lined streets, beautiful homes and a spirit of engagement that exists between the campus and community. Faculty live on neighboring streets, local merchants are Geneseo grads.
Value
Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine (February, 2008) ranked Geneseo the 6th best value (quality for the price) in the nation- out of more than 500 public colleges and universities- for New York residents, and the #1 value in the nation for out-of-state students. Tuition for state residents is $4,970; out-of-state tuition is $12,870.
