Transfer Students
Over 600 students transfer to Geneseo annually, making up one-third of each incoming class. Many choose to take advantage of the guaranteed on-campus housing available. As a transfer student, a wide variety of housing options are available to meet your needs. All transfer students are guaranteed the opportunity to live in a campus residence hall.
As a transfer student you will find it very easy to meet both faculty and students, allowing for a smooth transition to life at Geneseo.
Transfer Application Process
If you have earned fifteen or more semester hours since graduation from high school, you will be considered a transfer student. All transfer students must submit a high school transcript or equivalent. In addition, transfer students with less than 24 credits must submit SAT I and/or ACT exam scores.
Applications for the spring term should be completed by
October 15; candidates for fall admission should file completed applications no later than February 15. Please note that it takes between 4-6 weeks to complete the application process, therefore applications should be filed with this timeframe in mind. Applications completed after these recommended dates will be considered for admission, but applicants are at a disadvantage, as space is limited.
To apply, file either the preferred Common Application (www.commonapp.org) or the SUNY application (www.suny.edu/student/), and submit an official high school transcript as well as official transcripts from all colleges you have earned credit from or attended. Online applications are preferred. SUNY application forms are available at all New York State community colleges, high school counseling offices, and from admissions offices at all SUNY colleges.
Decisions are made on a rolling basis once all required documents are received.

Transfer Credit
Geneseo will accept up to 60 credits from two-year colleges and up to 90 credits from four-year schools. You may receive up to 30 credits for non-liberal arts courses for which Geneseo has no equivalent, such as technical subjects and courses in human services. No matter how many credits you have, you must take at least 30 credits at Geneseo and meet all of the requirements for the bachelor's degree.
Geneseo awards up to 30 credit hours for examinations such as the Advanced Placement Program (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB). While each academic department determines the minimum test score required for academic credit in a particular subject, three hours of elective credit are guarenteed for general elective courses with scores of three or above for AP courses, and four and above for IB courses. Official transcripts or reports of your scores must be sent to the Geneseo Admissions Office to receive credit. At your request, Geneseo will send you an estimate of transfer credit; an official evaluation will be available when you register for classes.
At any point in the process, an Admissions Counselor will be happy to discuss transfer credit with you.
